I recently did a breast biopsy procedure, and the radiologist sent my sample to a pathology lab to do the test. I know that the radiology center is in my plan’s network because I can check out via my plan’s website, and I can make a choice, but how about pathology lab?
We can check out which provider or medical clinic our insurance can be covered, but we usually cannot choose pathology/lab service…? Because our doctors will take care of the procedures, then send the samples to the lab themselves w/o asking us, right? This is supposed to be a whole procedure together. We never know which labs they will work with, so how should we know if our insurance can cover the lab service?
