Hi everyone,
I have going to the same gynecologist for my routine wellness check up for the past 3 yrs.
Every time she asks me when my last period was I’ve always told her I don’t really get periods due to birth control. She’s always confirmed that was normal and there was no issue.
The last appointment I told her the same answer and she said the same thing and did not comment further on it.
But for some reason this time she asked me if I was ok to do an ultrasound and I asked her if that was part of the wellness check up as I never got it the previous visit. She confirmed it was part of standard wellness check up and it was included. She explained it is to check your uterus lining was normal.
I of course listened to her and said ok. The ultrasound technician came in and asked if I had ever gotten it and I said no, I had been here before but they never performed it on me. She was very surprised and said everyone that comes here gets the ultrasound as a standard check up. Of course I was surprised because I had been there several times and never had it done.
The billing comes and the office says I complained about having irregular periods and that is why they are charging me for an office visit not a wellness check up. I explained to them that was not the case and I had been there previously given the same exact answers etc and am confused about why checkup was treated so differently.
The billing department is saying that it’s my fault for consenting to the ultrasound even though the doctor told me it was part of the wellness checkup and that it’s my responsibility to know what contract I signed with my insurance and what my benefits are.
In this situation I feel like I was taken advantage of for them to make some profit. Could this be because it’s after COVID and they are desperate for money? But I would like to know if I was in the wrong here and this is standard practice? I feel extra frustrated because I have the same exact answers as the previous s visit but for some reason this time they are billing me for extra. I feel very bad about this practice now and do not want to go back.
