Started new job, when will Medicaid cancel my coverage?

Hi all,

I just started a new job last week that does provide their own medical benefits. However, I could either enroll right away, or I can enroll in May and have coverage starting July 1.

I currently am covered under Medicaid and was wondering, if I were to apply for my employer’s health plan, would I lose Medicaid right away? Would I have double coverage?

On the contrary, can I just wait until Medicaid cancels my coverage and enroll in my employer’s health plan in May to get coverage again starting July? I would prefer to keep my Medicaid as long as I can, if possible.

How long does it typically take for Medicaid to cancel your coverage? I think my coverage renewed on August 1, 2020. I just started working on January 7, 2021 and have a couple doctor’s appointments coming up next month. I don’t think those would be covered my my employer’s plan if I were to enroll right away, would they still be covered by Medicaid?

Any tips or advice would be highly appreciated!
