We live in CA and my husband is offered Empire Blue Cross (NY) through his employer – question about fertility coverage

We’re getting ready for open enrollment and I’m looking into our options. It seems my husband’s company, which is based in NY, offers Empire BC/BS PPO plans through Bluecard. The benefits handbook doesn’t say anything about limiting this plan to NY residents only. We live in California and will likely be doing IVF next year.

Apparently there’s a new law effective in NY that requires all large group insurance plans cover three cycles of IVF. This would be huge for us, as CA does not mandate any IVF coverage.

My question is—would we get the benefit of this IVF coverage mandate through the Bluecard program, even though we live in CA? I can’t seem to get an answer from anyone at BC/BS since we haven’t signed up for the plan yet. I already confirmed with our doctor that he accepts Bluecard. Any insight would be appreciated.
