Will American private insurance companies allow Canadians to purchase a policy?

I don’t want to get into a debate about Canada’s free healthcare. Myself, and many family and friends live near a border city and are wondering if American private insurance companies will allow individuals to pay for private health insurance so that our regular doctor vists/procedures can all be done in the States. Specifically we would be looking at Michigan. Looking for definitive replies. Many say you can’t, but they always cite Medicare, which is not what we’re looking to do, we’re looking for private coverage. Thanks for the help!
